Partner Agencies

Funding Partners:

  Germany                                            Denmark

Entry points for the highest positive impacts: It is important to prioritise measures, through sectors and hotspots of key value chains to identify where the greatest opportunity for improvement occurs. For example:

The buildings and construction sector accounts for 39% of energy and process-related CO2 emissions, including 11% from the manufacturing and procurement of building materials. It also accounts for 30% of global resource consumption. With the building stock set to double by 2050, emissions, energy and resource consumption are set to increase.

The food sector is the dominant user of natural resources. Food systems, considered from production to consumption, are responsible for up to 37% of global GHG emissions, 60% of global terrestrial biodiversity loss, and the overexploitation of 20% of the world’s aquifers.

Multi-agency support to UN Country Teams in mainstreaming resource efficiency in the housing, buildings, and construction sector

The project aims to integrate resource efficiency into the building’s life cycle by equipping UN Country Teams (UNCTs) with the necessary tools and information to reach the following expected outcomes:

  • Strengthened national commitments and objectives for sustainable buildings and construction in two countries;
  • Strengthened technical resources to support governments in mainstreaming sustainability, resource efficiency, and climate change in the buildings and construction sector.
  • Enhanced capacities to utilize the potential of the buildings and construction sector to raise resources for the implementation of national sustainable development plans and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
  • Integration of sustainable procurement in the technical support provided.

Promoting sustainable food consumption and production patterns through integrated tools, advocacy and multi-stakeholder action

The project aims to achieve coherent policies and strengthened human capacities for sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems development at national and municipal level. Expected outcomes are:

  • More sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems at national and municipal levels in Uganda and at municipal level in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Raised awareness and strengthened capacities of the policy makers about the importance of adopting a food systems approach.
  • Strengthened link between the tourism and food sectors. Tourism represents an entry point for circularity and transformation in tourism value chains through sustainable procurement, sustainable menus and Food Loss and Waste reduction and management.
  • Behavioural change on sustainable food systems catalyzed for actors along the value chain through global and local campaigns and partnerships.
